“We all live on a continuum of abilities and disabilities; the principles of yoga apply to all people, all bodies”

— Matthew Sanford, Adapted Yoga teacher and paraplegic

No matter your age, shape or ability, yoga is for everybody. Yoga is not about physical perfection, but a move toward holistic wellness through regular practice. Disability is not about what we can and cannot do, but about the diversity and potential within each of us.

Yoga Equality makes yoga accessible to those in our community living with health conditions or disabilities. With extensive practical training and knowledge, certified teachers Rochelle and Jane modify the physical practice of yoga to ensure every student, no matter their ability, are able to safely and effectively learn and practice yoga.

Our yoga classes empower each individual, building self-esteem and self-understanding through achievement. We meet each student at their current level of functioning, and progress through individualised achievable goals. The limits of each student are accepted, and with support, redefined.

Some of the practical benefits of Yoga include -

  • Increased strength, balance and flexibility, both mentally and physically

  • The capacity to live more fully within the body

  • An enhanced ability to manage stress and self regulate

  • A deepened sense of connection to self and with others

  • Hope and a renewed sense of freedom

The unique combination of yoga poses with mindfulness, meditation and breath create a proven and quantifiable mind-body connection for everybody, and have the capacity to be life changing.
